5 Famous Paintings And Their Corresponding Albums

Do you ever see a painting, then have a specific song or album pop into your head, and think that it’s the perfect soundtrack to the image? Here are five famous paintings and their matching soundtracks.

“DREAMCAR” – DREAMCAR

“DREAMCAR” and “The Starry Night” both convey a dreamy, whimsical take on real life. You can see the recognizable world, but it’s filtered through an artist’s lense.

“Skin & Earth” – Lights

From the audience, ballet always looks delicate, yet it takes so much strength to give the effect of that delicacy. In the same way, Lights’ “Skin & Earth” revolves around shimmery, ephemeral pop melodies, but its indomitable backbone is what lends power to the pop.

“ROCKISDEAD” – Dorothy

The Great Wave off Kanagawa is filled with energy and imminent action, yet at the same time incredibly and impressively deliberate. It simultaneously feels as though the wave will crash in a moment, and as though it will stand for all eternity. “ROCKISDEAD” has some of that duality as well: a solid, sedate pace paired with a lively, unrestrained spirit.

“Folie à Deux” – Fall Out Boy

There’s something more than a bit off-putting about both this painting and Fall Out Boy’s most controversial album, making them the perfect partners.

“H.E.R.” – H.E.R.

The soothing, muted nature of “H.E.R.” is perfect for relaxing on a sunny day, and the album is just as reflective as Monet’s pond.

Discover: Greta Van Fleet

Greta Van Fleet just released their double-EP “From The Fires,” combining their debut EP “Black Smoke Rising” with four brand-new songs. The whole thing is one long joyride, bubbling over with blues-rock enthusiasm. There’s a definite throwback element, with “Highway Tune” inevitably leading to a Zeppelin comparison, and the folk-tinged “Flower Power” hailing back to the ‘60s. But there’s nothing outdated about Greta Van Fleet. Each track make you sit up and take notice, whether it’s fiery blues-rock or rolling folksiness, grounded in a muscular modern rock sound. Even the band’s cover of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” fits right in with their original tracks, with the same crackling energy and urgency, imbued with an added bit of soul. “From The Fires” is the kind of album that makes you itch to take a roadtrip, because you know Greta Van Fleet can provide the perfect soundtrack.

Discover: Goodbye June

Goodbye June formed in June of 2005, after the death of lead guitarist Tyler Baker’s brother. The trio is composed of three first cousins, who came together after the tragedy and moved to Nashville to make music. They all grew up in religious households, and faith plays a central part on the band’s most recent album “Magic Valley,” which sees Goodbye June center their focus on a nostalgic look at youth and growing up.

Plenty of bands nowadays aspire to be “rock n’ roll” bands, but few sound like they deserve the title. On hits like “Daisy” and “Danger In The Morning” Goodbye June show off their hard rock chops with Guns N’ Roses-worthy falsettos and hefty riffs. The band’s bluesy side shows through in their rolling guitars and melancholy moments. But Landon Milbourn’s earnest vocals and the poignant nature of the group’s music brings them a step further than just a blues-rock band. “Magic Valley” is heart-wrenching, even the anthems carrying a mournful sheen. But don’t let the nostalgia fool you: Goodbye June are perfectly capable of knocking your socks off with fiery energy and devastating riffs.

Discover: Dorothy

If you’ve ever thought that old-fashioned rock-and-roll was gone for good, then Dorothy is the answer to your prayers. Within the first few second of “Kiss It,” you know that this band is a force to be reckoned with. Led by frontwoman Dorothy Martin, Dorothy has all the charisma, recklessness, and guitar riffs of a classic rock band, but melded into a different sound. The band has made their name with a collection of blues-rock songs, that feel loud and brash thanks to Martin’s vocals, but maintain a self-assured, unhurried pace. There’s a hint of country on songs like “Gun In My Hand,” and harder rock drifts in on singles like “Missile,” but overall Dorothy are carving a place for themselves with brazen, confident arena rock that won’t be left in the corner.

Discover: Harlea

Harlea is the stage moniker of a London-based singer who combines catchy guitar riffs with pop-inspired vocals to deliver hits that weave together stomping, bluesy rock with mainstream pop. Thundering basslines and sultry vocals recall the days of classic rock, but a lack of guitars leaves room for crashing drums and production-slathered vocals. Confrontational lyrics complete the image of Harlea as an honest, straight-forward, modern-day rock star.
